Chitrakoot hit by severe Mandakini River flooding

Chitrakoot and Satna districts in Madhya Pradesh are facing severe flooding caused by the Mandakini River swelling due to relentless torrential rainfall. The region is experiencing its worst flood in 20 years, which has led to the collapse of the Ramghat-Hanuman Dhara bridge after water levels rose approximately seven meters above the historical high flood level.

The Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department estimates that fully rebuilding the bridge will take eight to nine months. To accommodate pilgrims expected during the upcoming Diwali festival, authorities plan to install a temporary pontoon bridge.

The Deendayal Shodh Sansthan, an institute established by Nanaji Deshmukh, has also suffered significant damage. Multiple facilities, including the Arogyadham, dental hospital, and various educational centers, have been inundated, with reported losses of approximately Rs 3.5 crore. In response, Baljagat has initiated a relief effort, contributing Rs 12 lakh in total assistance to support the revival of the affected premises.
