Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway sees fatal accidents and protests

Multiple fatal road accidents have occurred on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in Bangladesh, leading to casualties and public unrest.

In Karnaphuli, four people were killed when a covered van struck a microbus near the Shikalbaha Chowmuhani area. The victims include Niyaz Morshed (22), his sister Mimtah (17), their uncle Md. Ferdous Alam (55), and the microbus driver. The accident happened around 2:00 AM on Saturday while the group was returning from a wedding in Chittagong. Seven others were injured and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Police have seized the vehicle, though the driver and assistant fled the scene.

In Satkania, a 10-year-old student named Isha Dash was killed after being struck by a Star Line transport bus in the Mithadighi area. Following the incident, angry local residents and students blocked the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway, setting fires and demanding speed breakers, foot overbridges, and compensation. The blockade caused significant traffic congestion for approximately two hours before police intervention. Authorities have since detained the bus driver and begun installing speed breakers near the victim's school.
