Chivasso hit by violent storm and potential tornado
A violent storm and potential tornado struck Chivasso in the province of Torino on Thursday, August 20, causing widespread damage. The weather event brought torrential rain, lightning, hail, and extremely strong wind gusts.
In the areas north of the railway line, specifically around via Bradac, via Ivrea, and via Favorita, the wind uprooted trees and stripped roofs from buildings. A masonry structure collapsed onto parked cars, causing significant damage. The local mayor described the intensity of the phenomenon, noting that the “hurricane won the battle.”
While the Centro Meteo Piemonte has not officially confirmed a tornado, they stated that the possibility cannot be ruled out pending further technical analysis of radar data, images, and local testimonies. The storm follows a period of instability across Northern Italy.
