Choczewo tourism remains stable during nuclear plant preparations

Preparations for Poland's first nuclear power plant, a project led by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) with a planned capacity of 3.75 GWe, have not deterred tourism in the Choczewo municipality. During the summer season, collaborative efforts between PEJ, the Choczewo municipal office, the Maritime Office in Gdynia, and the Choczewo Forest District aimed to maintain regional attractiveness despite ongoing infrastructure preparations.

Key initiatives included a free electric buggy (meleks) transport service for residents and tourists from Słajszewo and Biebrowo to the beaches. This service completed nearly 3,000 trips between July and August, serving over 4,000 people. Additionally, the region saw significant active tourism, with approximately 33,000 cyclists traveling through the area near the future plant site in July and August. PEJ also provided funding for a supervised bathing area in Lubiatowo to ensure safe coastal recreation.
