Poland nuclear power plant development in Choczewo

The development of Poland’s first nuclear power plant in Choczewo, led by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), has progressed through both community management and legal milestones.

Initial efforts focused on mitigating the impact of infrastructure preparations on local tourism. Collaborative initiatives between PEJ and municipal authorities provided services such as free electric buggy transport and supervised bathing areas to maintain the region’s attractiveness to visitors.

Subsequently, the project secured a legal victory when a Warsaw administrative court dismissed a complaint from the Bałtyckie-SOS association regarding the project’s environmental decision. The court upheld the environmental impact report, despite concerns over thermal pollution in the Baltic Sea.

On the industrial side, the project is driving local economic involvement. While Polish firms like Budimex and Unibep have secured contracts for conventional earthworks and accommodation, six additional companies are undergoing certification to meet American NQA-1 standards. This certification is necessary to participate in nuclear-specific components and integrate into the global supply chains of major contractors.
