Choluteca livestock producers receive drought relief feed

The Honduran Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) has distributed over 410,000 pounds of corn silage to small-scale livestock producers in the Choluteca department to combat drought conditions. The aid was directed to the municipalities of Pespire and San Antonio de Flores, where a lack of rainfall has caused a shortage of natural pasture and forage.

In Pespire, 200 producers received 200,000 pounds of silage, while 210,000 pounds were distributed among 210 producers in San Antonio de Flores. Each beneficiary received 1,000 pounds of preserved feed to supplement their animals' diets, aiming to maintain livestock body condition and prevent losses in meat and milk production.

This initiative is part of the Livestock Production Incentive Program, which includes a total investment of 100 million lempiras for genetic improvement, nutrition, and training. Of that total, 20 million lempiras are specifically allocated for the purchase and distribution of livestock feed in the regions most severely impacted by the drought.
