Cevdet Selvi, former CHP Deputy Chairman, passes away at 83
Cevdet Selvi, a former CHP Deputy Chairman and Member of Parliament, has passed away at the age of 83. Selvi, who had a significant career in both the labor movement as the former General President of the Petrol-İş Union and in politics, was honored with a ceremony at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
The funeral ceremony was attended by current CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. While the two leaders shook hands during the service, observers noted a visible lack of interaction between them as the ceremony concluded, with Özel departing without further engagement with Kılıçdaroğlu.
Selvi’s political career included serving as a deputy for Eskişehir, Istanbul, and Kocaeli across multiple parliamentary terms. Following the ceremony at the TBMM, his remains were taken to the Ankara Gölbaşı Cemetery for burial.
