CHP members in Ankara's Çankaya call for extraordinary congress
Around 60 members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) from 18 neighborhoods in Çankaya, Ankara, convened a forum named “Çankaya Mahalleler Forumu.” After the meeting they issued a declaration demanding an extraordinary party congress, arguing that internal democratic mechanisms must be strengthened and that members need a more active role in decision‑making.
The statement highlighted the need to expand neighborhood forums, work groups and solidarity networks, and expressed support for CHP leader Özgür Özel while stressing the importance of collective leadership. It warned that a legitimacy crisis within the party could persist without legal and political action, and urged that all necessary legal avenues be pursued to convene the congress. The declaration quoted the participants: “Bizler Çankaya Mahalleler Forumu katılımcıları olarak, halkın iradesine, demokratik siyasete ve Cumhuriyet'in kurucu değerlerine sahip çıkmaya devam edeceğimizi ilan ediyoruz… Bugünün görevi umutsuzluğu büyütmek değil, örgütlü umudu kurmaktır.”
