CHP MPs Özgür Özel and Veli Ağbaba Investigation Files Sent to Ankara
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Organized Crime Investigation Bureau decided it lacked jurisdiction over two separate probes involving CHP parliamentarians Özgür Özel (Manisa) and Veli Ağbaba (Malatya). On 3 June 2026 the dossiers were transferred to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Parliamentary Crimes Investigation Office.
The investigations concern alleged bribery linked to the 2024 local‑election candidacy of Antalya mayor Muhittin Böcek, claims that €1 million was requested and delivered through the mayor’s son, and accusations that Özel and Ağbaba tried to influence delegates at the CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress. Additional probes address alleged violations of the Political Parties Law.
The Istanbul office cited legal precedent that jurisdiction over sitting members of parliament rests with the Ankara prosecutor, prompting the transfer of all related files for further examination.
