Adalar Municipality shifts to AK Parti after contentious deputy mayor election

The Adalar Municipality has shifted from CHP control to AK Parti following a contentious deputy mayor election. The vacancy arose after Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat was arrested on charges of bribery and forming an organization for criminal purposes, and subsequent deputy Medine Pamuk resigned due to health issues.

The election process was marked by significant tension and procedural disputes. During the voting rounds, disagreements between council members and observers led to the deployment of police and the evacuation of the meeting hall. While CHP and YENİ Parti representatives protested the process and called for annulment, AK Parti candidate Kemal Türkyılmaz was ultimately elected as deputy mayor after several rounds of voting.

In related political developments, the Yenilik Partisi has proposed a merger with YENİ Parti to resolve legal disputes regarding name similarity and eligibility issues. Additionally, YENİ Parti has introduced a 19-point commitment document for its local leadership candidates, emphasizing financial transparency and meritocracy.
