Chris Fagan to break Brisbane Lions coaching record

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan is set to break the club's coaching games record this Saturday. When he leads the team against Gold Coast at the Gabba, it will mark his 238th game in charge, surpassing the previous record of 237 games held by Leigh Matthews.

Fagan expressed humility regarding the milestone, noting that breaking the record of his mentor and friend does not ‘feel quite right’. Despite the difference in their playing careers, the two coaches share a close bond and have achieved significant success with the club; Matthews led the Lions to a hat-trick of premierships in the early 2000s, while Fagan has secured two consecutive titles.

The two coaches maintain nearly identical win-loss records, with Fagan currently sitting at 143 wins to Matthews' 142. The upcoming match against Gold Coast is a critical fixture for the Lions as they compete for a top-four finish and a double chance in the finals.
