Chris Garten endorsed by Indiana Senate Republicans for President Pro Tem

The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus has endorsed Senator Chris Garten to serve as the next President Pro Tempore. Garten, who previously served as the Senate majority floor leader, received unanimous support from his colleagues during a private meeting.

Garten is set to succeed Rodric Bray, who announced in late July that he would step down from the leadership position he has held for eight years. Bray will continue to manage daily Senate operations until the formal vote occurs following the November election. Garten has already indicated his intention to appoint Senator Eric Koch as the new Majority Floor Leader.

Upon taking the role, the President Pro Tempore will hold significant authority, including the power to appoint Senate committee chairs, direct the flow of legislation to specific committees, and establish the Senate’s overall agenda. Garten stated his commitment to “unapologetic conservatism, decisive action and absolute transparency” as he prepares to lead the caucus into the 2027 legislative session.
