Former NFL running back Chris Johnson announced on Good Morning America that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He asked fans, family and former teammates to bring back the 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS research.

Johnson posted a video nominating ex‑Titans teammate LenDale White and fellow former NFL players Marshawn Lynch and Adam “Pacman” Jones. White and Lynch responded with their own challenge videos, while Johnson’s daughter Honey Love nominated NBA legend LeBron James. The campaign directs donations to the Massachusetts General Hospital ALS Center and has raised more than $32,000 so far.

The original 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge raised over $115 million for the ALS Association and heightened public awareness of the disease, which causes progressive loss of muscle control and currently has no cure. Johnson’s renewed effort aims to rekindle that momentum and support research into treatments for ALS.
