Christian Eriksen recovers after on‑field collapse in Denmark

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed after clutching his chest during a friendly match against Ukraine in Odense on June 7, 2026. Medical staff attended him on the field, and the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) he received after his 2021 cardiac arrest activated as intended. Eriksen walked off the pitch unaided and was taken to Odense University Hospital for further tests.

The Danish national team’s physician, Morten Boesen, confirmed that Eriksen is in good spirits, has returned home to be with his family, and is expected to be discharged soon. Eriksen posted on Instagram thanking the medical team and reassuring fans that he is recovering well. He currently plays for Wolfsburg in Germany under contract through the 2026‑27 season, and Denmark did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
