Christian Eriksen recovering after on‑field collapse in Denmark friendly
Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed in the 64th minute of a friendly against Ukraine in Odense. The Implantable Cardioverter‑Defibrillator (ICD) implanted after his 2021 cardiac arrest activated, and he was briefly unconscious before walking off the pitch and being taken to hospital. Team doctor Morten Boesen said the pacemaker “responded as it should” and confirmed Eriksen was in “good spirits” and expected to be discharged soon.
Eriksen posted on Instagram, stating, “I want everyone to know that I am doing well and that I am at home with my family… my recovery has already started.” He thanked the medical staff, teammates, and doctors for their swift intervention and said his focus is now on recovery, family time, and playing football with his children. The incident prompted the match to be abandoned, and both Denmark and Ukraine have not qualified for the upcoming World Cup.
The Danish international, who now plays for VfL Wolfsburg, previously resumed his career after the 2021 incident and has since featured for Denmark at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
