Christian Eriksen collapses in Denmark‑Ukraine friendly, receives medical care

Denmark’s midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a sudden collapse in the 65th minute of a test match against Ukraine in Odense on 8 June 2026. He grasped his chest, briefly lost consciousness and was assisted by teammates and medical staff before walking unaided to a waiting ambulance. The match was abandoned with Denmark leading 2‑1.

Eriksen posted an Instagram update the following day confirming he was “well, at home with his family” and described the incident as a “shock” related to his implanted cardio‑verter‑defibrillator, which he received after a cardiac arrest at Euro 2021. Team doctor Morten Boesen said the device functioned correctly and that Eriksen’s condition was stable, while Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed relief and solidarity.

Wolfsburg, Eriksen’s club, as well as former teams Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur issued statements of support. His wife, Sabrina Kvist Jensen, witnessed the episode, recalling the 2021 collapse. Former Danish international Thomas Gravesen called for Eriksen to consider retirement, but Eriksen himself did not address his future in football.
