Christian Eriksen stays in Denmark for recovery, misses Wolfsburg preseason

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a second on‑field collapse on June 7 during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine in Odense. He regained consciousness quickly, received emergency medical care and was taken to a hospital for further examinations. The incident follows his first collapse at Euro 2021, after which he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter‑defibrillator.

Wolfsburg sporting director Dieter Hecking confirmed that Eriksen will not join the German club’s pre‑season preparations as initially planned. Instead, the player will remain in Denmark to undertake an individual rehabilitation program. Hecking stressed that the club will not rush his return, describing the situation as “extremely delicate” and emphasizing the need to avoid any pressure on the player.

The club’s approach reflects a cautious stance, prioritising Eriksen’s health over immediate sporting considerations.
