Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a sudden cardiac episode during a friendly against Ukraine, prompting the match to be stopped. The 34‑year‑old, who carries a subcutaneous defibrillator implanted after a previous collapse in 2021, later confirmed via Instagram that the device functioned as intended and that he was recovering at home.

Wolfsburg teammate Patrick Wimmer, now an Austrian international, said the club had been aware of Eriksen’s condition and that the player had warned them about potential problems. "We knew this could happen," Wimmer told reporters, adding that he immediately wrote to Eriksen and contacted the Wolfsburg medical staff after the incident.
