Christian Nodal Faces Feminist Calls to Cancel León Balloon Festival Show

Feminist collectives in Guanajuato have launched a campaign demanding that the organizers of the Festival Internacional del Globo in León cancel the scheduled concert of regional Mexican singer Christian Nodal. The groups argue that Nodal’s public controversies and alleged economic and vicarious violence against his former partner contradict the event’s responsibility to promote gender equality and respect for women.

The festival’s board and the municipal authorities of León have not issued an official statement on the matter. Festival president Abraham Rocha Moreno defended the decision to keep Nodal on the bill, noting that the artist has no record of alimony debt or judicial accusations. The Festival Internacional del Globo is a major tourism attraction in Guanajuato, drawing thousands of visitors each year, and the debate continues online as the concert date of 15 November approaches.
