Christian Wulff calls for ban of AfD state associations

Former German President Christian Wulff has advocated for legal proceedings to ban individual state associations of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. In an interview with the magazine ‘Evangelische Perspektiven’, Wulff argued that the party’s program is designed against the rule of law and democracy, claiming it categorizes people into ‘allegedly right and less right Germans.’

Wulff stated that he has reviewed a recent expert opinion from the NGO ‘Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte’ and believes the necessary conditions for a successful ban in states like Thuringia and Brandenburg are met. He warned that an AfD government would lead to significant economic and legal setbacks, particularly in regions like Saxony-Anhalt.

Ahead of upcoming state elections, Wulff urged citizens to engage critically with the party’s current platform and personnel, emphasizing that the party’s ideology could eventually impact all citizens, not just immigrants.
