Christiane Amanpour to leave CNN in 2027 after 43 years

Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, has announced she will leave the network in June 2027 after a 43-year career. The 68-year-old journalist, known for her reporting on major global conflicts including the Gulf War, Bosnia, and Ukraine, stated that her decision followed months of careful consideration.

Amanpour’s departure will follow a gradual transition. Her daily program, ‘Amanpour,’ on CNN International will scale back to a weekly format in early 2027 before concluding in May. She will also end her program ‘Amanpour & Company’ on PBS at the end of 2026. However, she intends to continue her podcast, ‘The Ex Files,’ and pursue new projects.

CNN Chairman Mark Thompson expressed sadness over her departure, describing her as ‘one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere.’ Her exit coincides with a period of corporate transition for CNN, following the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Skydance, which also includes CBS.
