Christians for Israel sues Dutch government over West Bank trade ban

The Dutch evangelical organization Christians for Israel, through its Israel Product Centre (IPC), has filed summary proceedings against the Netherlands government to block an upcoming trade ban. The decree, announced in July, is scheduled to take effect on September 22 and will last for three years. It prohibits the importing, buying, and selling of goods produced in Israeli settlements located in the occupied West Bank and Golan Heights, as well as intermediary services intended to circumvent these rules.

The IPC argues that the measure is “one-sided” and provides insufficient time to clear existing inventory, specifically citing approximately 20,000 bottles of wine. Additionally, the group contends that the national ban conflicts with the European Union’s principle regarding the free movement of goods. While EU regulations require goods from these settlements to be labeled as originating from Palestine rather than Israel, the bloc has not implemented an outright trade ban, leaving such decisions to individual member states. A court verdict is expected in approximately two weeks.
