Christine Lagarde faces speculation over French presidential ambitions

Speculation regarding Christine Lagarde’s potential involvement in the French presidential elections has intensified following her appearance at the ‘Fête de la Pomme’ in Normandy. While Lagarde has not confirmed any political plans, her presence at the event—which has historically hosted conservative candidates—has fueled discussions about a possible move from the European Central Bank (ECB).

Lagarde stated that her mission at the ECB is to ensure price stability and that she intends to remain in her role until her term ends in October 2027. However, she previously noted in an interview with Les Echos that an ‘European voice’ should be heard in the French presidential debate.

Adding to the speculation is the announcement of her upcoming autobiography, titled ‘Lady First’, scheduled for release in late January. While she has avoided direct questions regarding a run for office against figures such as Marine Le Pen, her recent public engagement and refusal to rule out an earlier departure from the ECB have kept her name central to French political discourse.
