Christine Lagarde rules out 2027 French presidential bid

Christine Lagarde, the President of the European Central Bank, has ruled out a run for the French presidency in 2027. Speaking to the newspaper Le Croix, Lagarde stated that pursuing the office at the Elysée Palace ‘would not be a good idea.’

Lagarde cited concerns regarding vitality, energy, and the necessary sense of sacrifice required for such a role, noting her current age of 70. While she clarified that she has made no concrete announcements regarding her departure from the ECB, she indicated that her mandate, which ends in October 2027, might conclude a few months early. She reassured stakeholders by stating, ‘in 2027 I will still be here.’
