Christos Tzolis scores on Arsenal debut as club hails new signing

Arsenal completed the €40 million (£34 million) signing of Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge to replace Leandro Trossard, who moved to Besiktas for £17 million. Tzolis made an immediate impact in the pre‑season friendly against Girona, scoring the second goal in a 4‑1 win. Manager Mikel Arteta praised his adaptation, work‑rate, directness and pace, saying fans will love the player. The winger earned the nickname “Leonidas” after topping a demanding 1.4 km fitness test. British tabloids such as the Daily Mail and The Sun, as well as Greek outlets, lauded his performance, calling it a “steal” given the transfer fee. Tzolis, who previously struggled at Norwich City with 14 Premier League appearances, has since flourished at Club Brugge, recording 33 goals in two seasons and 17 goals with 23 assists in the 2025‑26 campaign. His confidence is high as he prepares for the new Premier League season.
