Health authorities expand breast cancer screening and prevention initiatives

Various health departments and regional governments are implementing expanded programs for breast cancer detection and prevention. In Argentina, the Chubut government conducted over 1,800 mammographies during October, while the Materno Infantil hospital in Salta reported 180 malignant tumor diagnoses following 3,579 mammographies conducted between January and August.

In Mexico, the government of Colima is launching intensive campaigns for breast and cervical cancer detection in 10 health units, and Baja California is extending free mammography services through December. In Spain, the National Health System is progressively expanding its population screening program to include women aged 45 to 74.

Other regional efforts include surgical sterilization programs in Venezuela and the provision of preventive exam vouchers in Tarapacá, Chile. Medical specialists are also emphasizing the importance of combining mammography with ultrasound for more accurate early diagnosis.
