Chubut Province launches $3.3 bn digital hub and data‑center project
Governor Ignacio "Nacho" Torres announced a plan to turn Argentina’s Chubut province into a global digital hub. The initiative, branded Chubut Hub Digital 2030, foresees a US$3.3 billion investment to build a large data‑center in the Trelew free‑zone, together with a nationwide fiber‑optic network that would make the region a second national telecommunications anchor.
Polish firm Green Capital is set to construct the facility, naming the project Atlas GigaHub. The company has signed a strategic partnership with local agencies and leased about 130,000 ha of Patagonian land for a 66‑year term (six years for development and sixty for operation). The first phase targets a 300 MW power supply, with total investment estimates ranging from US$3 bn to US$5 bn, and construction is expected to begin around 2028 after talks conclude in 2027. The governor highlighted Chubut’s exceptional wind yields, vast territory and low‑cost energy as key advantages for the venture.
