Chubut province receives first $4 bn ANSES payment, begins pension fund installments
The government of Argentina's Chubut Province has received the first installment of a historic debt owed by the National Social Security Administration (ANSES). The payment of 4 000 million pesos is the first of twelve equal installments that will total 48 000 million pesos, earmarked to cover the monthly pensions of the province’s retirees. Governor Ignacio Torres said, “We fulfilled our word… the first tranche has been directed to pay the salaries of our provincial pensioners.”
Torres also announced plans to ease the credit‑card debt burden of public employees. He said many workers “pay only the minimum, creating a financial snowball that suffocates them,” and outlined a proposal to negotiate softer or even zero interest rates with the National Bank, the Bank of Chubut and private lenders. The initiative would require public funds to subsidise the rates and extend repayment periods, aiming to prevent debts from consuming 70‑80% of salaries.
Both measures are part of the governor’s broader effort to sustain purchasing power and address long‑standing financial imbalances in the province.
