Argentina provinces report varying fiscal transparency and credit delinquency
Argentina's provincial fiscal landscape shows significant variation in transparency and credit health. According to the 2024 Provincial Budget Transparency Index (ITPP) by CIPPEC, Entre Ríos ranked second nationally with 9.75 points, trailing only Córdoba (9.90) and ahead of Santa Fe (9.70). The index evaluates the availability, detail, and timeliness of fiscal information provided via official government websites.
In terms of credit markets, Argentina is experiencing a sharp rise in delinquency rates. The consolidated default rate for individual loans reached 17.5% in June, marking twenty consecutive months of increases. Non-bank credit providers show a significantly higher delinquency rate of 31% compared to 15.2% in the traditional banking system. Regional disparities are evident, with La Rioja recording the highest delinquency at 24.5%, while provinces like La Pampa maintain lower rates around 9.1%.
On a provincial management level, Chubut reported positive fiscal results for the first quarter of 2026, achieving both primary and financial surpluses despite a real decline in provincial income. Meanwhile, the Banco de Tierra del Fuego reported an expansion in credit activity, increasing its mortgage UVA fund to $25,000 million to support local families and businesses.
