Chubut weather alert issued for heavy rain in Comodoro Rivadavia

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across various sectors of Chubut, Argentina. The warning, which began Sunday night, September 27, is expected to continue through Monday, September 28.

In Comodoro Rivadavia and Rada Tilly, specifically within the Escalante plateau, Sarmiento, and southwest Florentino Ameghino, rainfall accumulations are estimated between 15 and 30 millimeters, though higher localized values are possible. The alert also covers departments including Gastre, Paso de Indios, Sarmiento, Telsen, Mártires, Escalante, and Gaiman, with expected accumulations between 10 and 25 millimeters.

In addition to rain, there is a possibility of snow in elevated areas. This weather pattern follows a period of significant rainfall in the region; a previous storm on September 20 resulted in 39 millimeters of rain in Comodoro Rivadavia, necessitating civil defense interventions. Local authorities have been cleaning drainage channels and sumideros to mitigate flooding risks.
