Zonda wind and severe weather alerts in Argentina and region

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has expanded its weather warnings across Argentina, issuing multiple orange and yellow alerts for various phenomena.

In the western and Cuyo regions, including San Juan, Jujuy, Salta, and Catamarca, alerts remain active for the Zonda wind. This phenomenon continues to pose risks of sudden temperature increases, very dry conditions, and reduced visibility, with wind gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h. Additionally, significant snowfall has been noted in Mendoza, Chubut, and Tierra del Fuego.

Beyond the Zonda winds, the SMN has issued warnings for other severe weather conditions. In the north and central provinces of Chaco, Misiones, Corrientes, and Córdoba, orange and yellow alerts are in effect for heavy storms, which may bring intense precipitation, hail, and wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h. Misiones is specifically under an orange alert for dangerous weather.

Recent developments indicate shifting weather patterns, including the arrival of polar air causing sudden temperature drops and the presence of low-pressure systems. These systems have triggered the sudestada in Buenos Aires and heavy snow in the Andes.

In neighboring Paraguay, meteorologists have issued alerts for 11 departments due to expected moderate to strong thunderstorms, wind gusts, and a high probability of hail. Temperatures in Paraguay are expected to fluctuate, with warm conditions in the north and Chaco followed by a slight decrease as southern winds move in.
