Church in Brazil to send R$ 2.9 million in earthquake aid to Venezuela
The Catholic Church in Brazil is preparing to send R$ 2,921,575.76 in aid to families affected by earthquakes in Venezuela. The funds were raised through the ‘SOS Venezuela – Solidarity and Fraternity’ campaign.
The financial assistance will be channeled through Caritas Venezuela to support the reconstruction of lives, including community support, rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and purchasing essential items. This follows two major earthquakes in June that caused significant loss of life and property. According to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of August 24, the disasters resulted in 6,509 deaths and affected at least 1.3 million people.
Dom Mário Antônio, Archbishop of Aparecida and president of Caritas Brasil, stated that the resources are intended solely for the benefit of the Venezuelan population and will not be directed to any political or individual institutions.
