CIA obtains secret Wuhan lab intel, Fauci diary shows

A CIA employee, identified as Camille Hartman, briefed Dr. Anthony Fauci on June 4, 2021, that the agency had intercepted conversations in China and possessed secret information about the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Fauci’s diary, released by Senator Rand Paul, records his concern that Chinese authorities had not been transparent about laboratory work, including the transfer and study of pangolin viruses possibly used in transgenic‑mouse experiments.

The diary notes that the CIA’s briefers suggested the possibility of undisclosed experiments by the Chinese military at the Wuhan lab. Fauci described the briefers as “naïve and uninformed” and considered seeking legal counsel. The CIA has not responded to requests for comment.

The revelation adds new dimensions to ongoing debates over the origins of COVID‑19 and U.S.–China scientific transparency.
