US biolab probe widens; Fauci subpoenaed, Gabbard cult link
Entities: Rand Paul · EcoHealth Alliance · Senator Rand Paul · U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee · National Institutes of Health
Overview
In early May 2026 the ODNI, then led by Tulsi Gabbard, began reviewing over 120 U.S.–funded overseas labs, de‑classifying memos that alleged gain‑of‑function work and listed high‑lethality pathogens. The releases claimed Dr. Anthony Fauci directed funding to Wuhan Institute research via EcoHealth Alliance and misled Congress, while also noting Gabbard’s political guidance from a cult‑linked figure. Senate subpoenas followed, and Gabbard posted thousands of redacted pages online in June.
In July 2026 Senator Rand Paul opened a searchable “Reading Room” showing FBI orders that stopped Customs agents from questioning British zoologist Peter Daszak when he returned to the United States in February 2021. The documents reveal Daszak was flagged for his work with the Wuhan lab and that the FBI blocked inquiries about possible virus samples tied to NIH‑funded gain‑of‑function projects.
Paul also released internal emails from the authors of the 2020 “Proximal Origins of COVID‑19” paper, showing Kristian Andersen and Eddie Holmes privately assigning a 20‑30 % chance to a lab‑leak scenario and alleging Fauci accelerated the paper’s publication to support a natural‑origin narrative. On July 23 2026 Paul reiterated these email disclosures, emphasizing the scientists’ doubts and the attempt to manage the paper trail.
On July 26 2026 he added a set of Slack chats that expanded the discussion to a broader group of researchers—including Robert Garry, Ian Lipkin and Andrew Rambaut—and cited a 2018 grant proposal called “Project DEFUSE” linked to Wuhan Institute work, the furin‑cleavage site debate, and German virologist Christian Drosten’s involvement. These later leaks reinforce earlier claims of concealed lab‑origin possibilities and keep congressional investigations and subpoenas ongoing.
