Cibele Vieira Named First Female Head of Brazil's Oil Workers Federation

The Federação Única dos Petroleiros (FUP) installed a new board at the opening of its 20th National Congress in Salvador, Brazil. Over 320 delegates from the federation's 14 affiliated unions gathered at the Clube dos Empregados da Petrobras (CEPE) from 20 to 24 March. Cibele Vieira was elected unanimously as coordinator‑general for the 2026‑2029 term, becoming the first woman to lead the national oil workers federation.

The congress, themed “Brazil Sovereign – Energy for a Better World,” will debate issues such as Brazil’s energy sovereignty, the transition to new energy models, the reconstruction and strengthening of Petrobras, geopolitics, logistics, worker health, pension reforms and gender inequality. Vieira, a Petrobras employee since 2002, previously headed the Unified Union of Oil Workers in São Paulo and has more than two decades of experience in the sector. She succeeded Deyvid Bacelar, who was honored during the event.
