CIE announces power grid reinforcement works in southern Abidjan

The Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Électricité (CIE) has announced a major program to reinforce the high-voltage electricity network in southern Abidjan. Scheduled from August 10 to August 30, 2026, the works involve replacing conductors on the 90 kV Vridi–Bia-Sud 2 connection and upgrading the Bia-Sud substation to 225 kV.

These interventions aim to increase the capacity and reliability of the electrical grid to meet growing demand. Due to the scale of the project, work will be carried out in successive phases, primarily during weekends. This may result in intermittent power disruptions in several southern districts, including Marcory, Koumassi, Port-Bouët, Anoumabo, and Vridi.

Additional work related to the commissioning of the 225 kV Bia-Sud substation is expected to continue until November 2026. This project is part of a broader investment plan by Côte d'Ivoire to address rising electricity needs, which have been driven by heatwaves and an increasing number of subscribers.
