CINESAL selects Salvadoran films for Oscar and Goya consideration

The National Cinema Committee of El Salvador (CINESAL) has established a formal selection process to present Salvadoran films to major international film academies. This initiative marks a new stage for the country's film industry by creating institutional mechanisms for global recognition.

For the 99th Academy Awards, CINESAL selected the feature film ‘Vértices’, directed, produced, and written by Arturo López Rodas. The film, which explores themes of friendship and time through the reunion of three old friends, will be submitted for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category. The production has previously received awards at the Ícaro International Festival and the Cobb International Film Festival.

For the 41st Goya Awards, CINESAL selected ‘Luciérnagas en El Mozote’, written and directed by Ernesto Melara and produced by Elías Axume. The film will be presented to the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain for consideration in the Best Ibero-American Film category. The story depicts the El Mozote massacre from the perspective of an 11-year-old child.
