Overview
The National Cinema Committee of El Salvador (CINESAL) has established a formal selection process to present Salvadoran films to major international film academies.
For the 99th Academy Awards, CINESAL selected the feature film ‘Vértices’, directed, produced, and written by Arturo López Rodas, for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category. The film explores themes of friendship and time through the reunion of three old friends and has previously received awards at the Ícaro International Festival and the Cobb International Film Festival. To proceed, the film must be formally submitted to the Academy before the September 30, 2026, deadline.
Additionally, for the 41st Goya Awards, CINESAL selected ‘Luciérnagas en El Mozote’, written and directed by Ernesto Melara and produced by Elías Axume, to be presented to the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain for the Best Ibero-American Film category. The film depicts the El Mozote massacre from the perspective of an 11-year-old child.
