South American authorities conduct multiple search and rescue operations
Various maritime and land-based search and rescue operations are underway across South America.
In Argentina, the Prefectura Naval Argentina conducted an aeroevacuation of a 39-year-old Uruguayan crew member from the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel RT Tannat. The individual, experiencing chest pain and headaches, was airlifted approximately 130 kilometers off the coast of Punta Indio to a hospital in Buenos Aires. Additionally, authorities in Santa Teresita are searching for two kayakers, aged 64 and 43, who disappeared at sea due to adverse weather conditions.
In Cipolletti, a search for 26-year-old Rodrigo Mariano Soto ended with him being found alive near the Río Negro after his vehicle was discovered abandoned. Following his rescue, Soto was detained due to a prior domestic violence complaint filed by his partner. Meanwhile, in San Luis, authorities continue to search for 26-year-old Maximiliano Ariel Cabrera, who has been missing since late August.
In Chile, the Chilean Navy coordinated a major maritime medical evacuation for a 55-year-old Angolan crew member aboard the fishing vessel Mar de Java. Located over 2,000 kilometers from Valparaíso, the patient was transferred via helicopter to the OPV Comandante Toro and subsequently airlifted to a medical facility near Concón.
