Circular economy advances in Spain's industrial and construction sectors
The circular economy is increasingly central to industrial and administrative agendas in Spain and Europe, focusing on resource efficiency and the transition to ecological modernization. Rather than simple recycling, the movement emphasizes rethinking production, usage, and material recovery to ensure that waste from one sector becomes raw material for another.
In the construction and demolition sectors, companies are adopting technologies to reuse and recycle materials to reduce environmental impact. In Galicia, Grupo J. Rilo has been highlighted for its work in waste valorization and construction services, demonstrating how industrial activity can align with environmental respect.
Similarly, Grupo Gestán, a Galician company, has received recognition as a sustainable enterprise for its industrial approach to environmental management. Operating plants in Santa Icía and Nostián, the group reported a turnover of nearly 38 million euros in 2025, managing over 318,000 tons of waste with an 82% recovery rate for industrial materials. The company has seen significant growth in the production of recycled aggregates, which reached over 65,150 tons in 2025.
