Circumvesuviana rail service faces major disruptions in Italy

Commuters and tourists using the Circumvesuviana rail network in Italy are facing significant disruptions due to a combination of scheduled maintenance and unexpected technical failures.

Planned works to upgrade the Bosco di Portici and Cavalli di Bronzo tunnels have necessitated a total suspension of service between Barra and Torre del Greco on August 28 and 29. To mitigate the impact, Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) has implemented a replacement bus service. Under this plan, Sorrento-bound trains terminate at Torre Annunziata, while Poggiomarino services end at Torre del Greco.

These disruptions were exacerbated by an unexpected power line failure near Torre Annunziata, which temporarily paralyzed additional sections of the network, including the routes between Torre Annunziata and Villa Regina, and Torre Annunziata and Boscotrecase. While EAV has worked to resolve the technical fault, the overlapping issues have caused delays and forced travelers to navigate complex transfers between trains and replacement buses.
