Italy transport: railway disruptions and new transit regulations

Multiple transportation issues are affecting various regions in Italy. In Lombardy, significant railway disruptions have impacted commuters traveling between Varese, Milan, and Malpensa Airport. Technical failures on the Gallarate-Malpensa-Milano Centrale line and at the Milano Lancetti station have caused delays of approximately 15 minutes, along with train cancellations and route changes.

In Campania, 83 million euros have been allocated for compensatory works related to the new Battipaglia-Romagnano high-speed rail line. These funds are intended for urban regeneration and infrastructure improvements in several municipalities, including Eboli, Battipaglia, and Campagna.

Additionally, new traffic regulations have been implemented on the SS 90 delle Puglie. To improve safety and reduce congestion caused by oversized loads for wind power plants, exceptional transport is now restricted to nighttime hours. From September 28 to December 31, 2026, transit is permitted only between 20:00 and 06:00, with further restrictions planned for 2027.

In the Naples area, commuters on the Circumvesuviana network are protesting new schedules. While some improvements like increased frequency on certain lines were noted, critics argue the service remains unequal, particularly for the Sarno and Poggiomarino lines which see earlier service terminations compared to the Sorrento line.
