Ciro Gomes backs Cariri leaders in Ceará ahead of 2026 election

During the Festa do Pau da Bandeira in Barbalha on 31 January, former minister and pre‑candidate for Ceará governor Ciro Gomes highlighted emerging regional figures in the Cariri area. He praised Felipe Vasques, president of the Juazeiro do Norte municipal chamber, describing him as a key leader and saying he intends to support Vasques as the highest‑voted PSDB deputy in the state.

Gomes also named other local politicians as potential allies for his 2026 electoral project, including Juazeiro do Norte mayor Glêdson Bezerra (Podemos), former Crato mayor Aloísio Brasil (União Brasil), and former Barbalha mayors Argemiro Sampaio and Rommel Feijó (both MDB). He noted that these figures have faced political pressure for maintaining independent positions and expressed a goal of uniting support across the Cariri region for the upcoming state elections.
