CISF to implement major functional reorganisation from November 1

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will implement a major functional reorganisation of its administrative and operational structure starting November 1. Approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the restructuring shifts the force from a territorial-based command to a domain-based model.

Under the new framework, security management will be aligned with specific economic and strategic sectors regardless of geographical location. This includes the creation of specialized sectors for power, coal, steel, petroleum and natural gas, seaports, and government buildings, museums, monuments, and mass rapid transit systems (GBMM & MRTS).

The reorganization aims to improve operational oversight, develop sector-specific expertise, and standardize security practices across India’s critical infrastructure. The move follows successful functional models already used by the force for aviation, atomic energy, and space sectors.
