CISF functional reorganization

Overview

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to implement a major functional reorganization of its administrative and operational structure beginning November 1, 2026. Approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the restructuring transitions the force from a territorial-based command to a domain-based model.

Under this new framework, security management will be aligned with specific economic and strategic sectors rather than geographical locations. This includes the creation of specialized sectors for power, coal, steel, petroleum and natural gas, seaports, and government buildings, museums, monuments, and mass rapid transit systems. Specific transitions include the North and North Eastern sectors becoming Power-I and Power-II sectors, while sectors in Bihar will transition to Coal and Steel sectors. The Western and South sectors will become the West Coast and East Coast Port sectors, respectively.

The reorganization aims to improve operational oversight, standardize security practices, and develop sector-specific expertise across India’s critical infrastructure.
