Citroën plans electric 2CV production in Italy by 2028

Citroën will revive its iconic 2CV as a fully electric city car, targeting a 2028 launch from Stellantis' Pomigliano d'Arco plant in Italy. The model is priced around €15,000 and is intended to "democratise" electric mobility, fitting into the new M1E vehicle category that benefits from EU tax breaks and incentives.

The design mirrors the original’s rounded roof and circular wheels while adding a canvas roof and classic headlights. A first prototype is slated for the Paris Motor Show in October 2026. The car will sit on Stellantis' upcoming E‑Car platform, likely featuring front‑motor, front‑wheel drive, LFP batteries, and an estimated 250 km range, developed with Chinese partners such as Leapmotor and Dongfeng.
