Citroën to launch €15,000 electric 2CV for the European market

Stellantis plans to revive the iconic Citroën 2CV as an ultra‑affordable electric city car, targeting a base price of around €15,000. The model, dubbed the electric “Deuche,” is slated for production in Italy and aims to reach European customers by 2028. It is part of a broader strategy that includes other low‑cost EVs such as the Dacia Hipster, Renault Twingo electric, and upcoming Volkswagen offerings, all intended to counter rising vehicle prices and meet EU emissions quotas.

The initiative relies on anticipated regulatory incentives, including “super‑credits” and possible VAT reductions, to make the small EV financially viable for manufacturers and appealing to price‑sensitive buyers. While the project is seen as a bold move to attract younger and middle‑class drivers, industry analysts warn of regulatory uncertainty and market fatigue with retro‑styled electric models, noting that success will depend on how European rules evolve and how consumers respond to the modest performance compromises required to keep costs low.
