Citroën to launch electric 2CV priced under €15,000 in 2028

Citroën confirmed that the iconic 2CV will return as a fully electric vehicle with a target entry price below €15,000. The model was unveiled in Stellantis’ 2026 strategic plan and a teaser image showed a compact, rounded silhouette reminiscent of the classic “Ente”. Production is slated to begin in 2028 at the Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy, keeping manufacturing within the European Union to benefit from the new EU “M1E” category for sub‑4.2 m electric cars.

The low‑price EV aims to capture the A‑segment market in Europe, where rivals such as Renault, VW and Chinese manufacturers are already offering inexpensive electric hatchbacks. Stellantis hopes the new 2CV will act as a “booster” for Citroën, expanding its market share toward the 50 % target for the continent. Technical specifications, including range and battery size, have not yet been disclosed.

If the price target is achieved, the vehicle would sit below the Citroën ë‑C3 and compete directly with the Renault Twingo electric and other budget EVs, signaling Stellantis’ effort to re‑enter the affordable‑electric niche after a period of absence.
