Citrus producers in Adana call for urgent government support

Mehmet Akın Doğan, President of the Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture, has issued an urgent call for government intervention to assist citrus producers in Adana, Turkey, who are facing one of their most difficult periods in recent years.

Doğan reported that rising agricultural input costs, falling product prices, and marketing challenges are pushing farmers into an economic deadlock. He noted that some producers are forced to sell their crops far below value, while others sell at a loss simply to afford the costs of preparing their trees for the next season.

To mitigate these losses, Doğan requested that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry identify producers who cannot market their products based on Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) records. He proposed that the entirety of the 2026 agricultural input costs for these affected farmers be covered through support mechanisms. Additionally, he emphasized the need for the timely announcement and payment of Support and Price Stabilization Fund (DFİF) and freight supports before the harvest season begins to ensure exporters remain competitive.
