City Airport Train introduces bus service for Vienna Airport connection
The City Airport Train (CAT) is implementing an early transition to bus services between Vienna Mitte and Vienna Airport, starting August 24, 2026. This decision follows an advanced closure of the S-Bahn main line caused by a cable fire near Vienna Praterstern.
Between 7 AM and 7 PM, premium buses will operate at 12-minute intervals, providing up to five connections per hour. Outside of these peak hours, buses will run approximately every 15 minutes. The journey via Setra coaches is expected to take about 21 minutes. The service will stop at Vienna Mitte The Mall at Marxergasse 1b and directly in front of Arrival Terminal 3 at the airport.
While the bus operation was originally intended to coincide with a scheduled main line closure from September 7, 2026, to October 31, 2027, the fire has necessitated this earlier response to maintain the airport connection.
